Who We Are
ViVe – Promoting Active Welfare
Take part in making Iceland an even better place!
ViVe was officially founded as an organization back in 2010 – and its original aim was to introduce UDPA or user managed personal assistance as a viable alternative in welfare services in Iceland. ViVe is a NGO or a non-governmental and non-profit organization.
We believe that people should decide their own lives outside of institutions and that user managed personal assistance has proven itself to be very effective when the user has the mental capacity to handle his or her own care. The first project of the organization was a parliamentary resolution proposal about UDPA that was unilaterally agreed upon back in 2011. The patron of the organization is former president of Iceland, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir (1980-1996) and its honorary member is Evald Krog, the person who spearheaded user directed personal assistance within Europe.
In accordance with the revised charter, from 2016, and the laws of ViVe; its goals and ideals have been expanded to include volunteer projects and focus on mental health issues. ViVe’s quality management board is appointed to one year at a time and consists of five distinguished individuals of Icelandic society.
